MapleStory Classic Warrior Leveling Guide

Summary

A level 10-30 Warrior route covering STR and DEX allocation, Power Strike and Slash Blast order, weapon multipliers, equipment choices, and second-job preparation.

Article body

Warriors in MapleStory Classic don't have to commit early: Fighter, Page, and Spearman share the same 1st-job build, so AP and SP carry to 30 no matter what. 4 STR / 1 DEX per level, max Power Strike, then Slash Blast. Below: the SP order, every weapon and armor from 10 to 30, and the swing/stab math.

The Warrior at a glance

Advance at lv 10 via Dances with Balrog in Perion. All three branches share the 1st-job tree and are STR-primary / DEX-secondary, so your AP and SP carry cleanly to 2nd job.

Three 2nd-job branches (all STR-primary):
Fighter → sword + axe, Rage party buff (+35 AP), 25% bleed proc on Axe Mastery.
Page → sword + BW, BW stun procs, Threaten debuff, Power Guard reflect.
Spearman → spear + polearm, Iron Will, and the legendary Hyper Body party buff.

AP allocation: pure STR or low-DEX?

How DEX factors into warrior damage:

MAX = (1 + (STR × WeaponMult + DEX + AttackPower) / 100) × WATK × SkillPercent

WATK is the outer multiplier on the whole formula, so +1 WATK on a weapon scroll beats almost any armor stat upgrade.
STR runs through the weapon's swing/stab multiplier (1.5 to 3.5), the second-best DPS stat per point.
DEX adds 1:1 into the inner slot alongside flat AttackPower (Rage, masteries). Real damage, but worth far less per point than WATK. Scrolling DEX for damage is a bad trade.
• Put just enough DEX into gear to meet stat reqs; everything else goes into STR; weapon scroll slots target WATK first. Full derivation in the damage formula guide.
  • By lv 30: roughly STR 84 / DEX 24 with pre-10 beginner investment.
  • Lv 30 weapons (Gladius, Mithril Maul, Mithril Pole Arm) need STR 65 / DEX 30. Bridge the 6 DEX gap with a +DEX armor variant or scroll.
  • Lv 30 chest armor (Hwarang, Martial Arts Pants) needs STR 50 / DEX 20, cleared exactly at lv 30.

Weapon multipliers: the Classic World rewrite

Classic World rewrote every warrior weapon's multiplier. Each weapon has two numbers (swing and stab). Real damage also depends on attack speed and base WATK, so the multiplier is only one piece.

WeaponSwingStab
1H Sword1.81.8
2H Sword2.52.5
1H Axe / 1H Blunt2.41.2
2H Axe / 2H Blunt3.02.0
Spear1.53.5
Polearm3.51.5
Speed across the lv 10-30 range:
1H weapons are Fast (4-5). The multiplier gap to 2H is smaller than it looks once speed is factored in.
2H Sword and 2H Axe are Normal (6). Higher per-hit, slower swing; speed partially cancels the multiplier gain.
2H Blunt, spears, polearms are Slow (7-8). The lv 30 Mithril Maul is the one Normal-speed (6) 2H Blunt.
Swing/stab alternates per cast at a 60/40 ratio. Power Strike, Slash Blast, and every Final Attack alternate swing and stab animations, so damage resolves to the 60/40 weighted average `0.6 × swing + 0.4 × stab` (back-solved from Littlefoot's in-game basic-attack AVG column). On warrior weapons: 1H Axe/Blunt avg 1.92, 2H Axe/Blunt avg 2.6, polearm avg 2.7, spear avg 2.3. 1H Sword (1.8/1.8) and 2H Sword (2.5/2.5) are symmetric so mixing doesn't change them. Full breakdown in the damage formula guide.

Skill build: the SP math

Lv 10-30 gives 61 SP; maxing everything costs 105, so you have to skip something. Per-level effects live on the Warrior class page.

Slash Blast 20 (130% AoE up to 4 mobs, mandatory; it's your only real AoE until 3rd job)
Max HP Increase 15 (+25% MaxHP, biggest 1st-job survival lever)
Improved HP Recovery 3 (MHI prereq; the skill itself is weak, don't over-invest)

Remaining 3 SP flex, usually into Precise Strikes (+1% crit / +4 ACC per 3 points, always on).
Precise Strikes is new to Classic World. Pre-BB warriors had no 1st-job crit passive. Max (15 SP) gives +5% crit rate and +20 accuracy, free and permanent.

Max HP Increase was reworked in MS Classic. In Pre-BB MapleStory, most warriors rushed Max HP Increase early because each level scaled your MaxHP growth on every future level-up, so putting points in late meant losing out on permanent HP. Classic flattens it to a simple passive +25% MaxHP at max, applied instantly. There's no longer any penalty for deferring it, which is why the build above holds it until Power Strike and Slash Blast are maxed.
Niche alternatives:
Party Crit build (dedicated cleric) → skip HP skills, max Precise Strikes instead. Highest 1st-job damage when someone's keeping you alive; strictly worse solo.
Boss-only build → leave Slash Blast at 1 SP, pour 22 SP into Precise Strikes 15 + Iron Body 7. Don't pick this if you're solo grinding; you'll have no AoE for 20+ levels.

Weapons: Fighter, Page, and Spearman

Fighter masters 1H/2H sword + axe; Page masters 1H/2H sword + BW; Spearman masters spear + polearm.

One-handed weapons (for shield-users)

1H weapons keep the shield slot and are all Fast (4-5) in this range. 1H Sword has a lower multiplier ceiling (1.8/1.8) but swings often. 1H Axe/Blunt at 2.4 swing sits just below 2H Sword's 2.5; Page's BW Mastery adds +20 AP and a 25% stun proc on BW.

Two-handed weapons (no shield, more damage)

2H trades the shield for higher base WATK and higher multipliers (2.5-3.0 swing vs 1.8-2.4 on 1H). Most are Normal (6) or Slow (7), so speed partially cancels the multiplier gain. 2H Axe and 2H BW share the highest non-spear/polearm swing multiplier (3.0).

Mithril Maul is the only Normal-speed (6) 2H Blunt in this range; every other 2H BW is Slow (7). With BW Booster (-2 stages) it lands at speed 4 vs 5, so it stays one numeric stage faster than the rest of the tier forever. Strict speed pick for Page.

Spears and polearms (Spearman path)

Spear and polearm are mirror images (1.5/3.5 vs 3.5/1.5). Because every Spearman skill alternates swing and stab per cast at a 60/40 swing-favored ratio, polearm averages 2.7 and spear averages 2.3 on Power Strike / Slash Blast / FA, a ~17% polearm advantage on the inner-term multiplier. Earlier versions of this guide assumed 50/50 alternation and called them a wash; under the verified 60/40 ratio polearm wins every mixed skill. Both are Slow (7 to 8), so the payoff still leans on Booster at 2nd job. Spearman has no 2nd-job AoE either, so Slash Blast stays your only crowd clear. Choose polearm for per-hit damage, spear for speed/stat-req edge cases.

Janitor's Mop is the dark horse of pre-30 Spearman gear: 47 WATK at level 25 with no DEX requirement.

1H + shield vs 2H no-shield

Fighters and Pages pick between 1H + shield and 2H; Spearmen are shield-locked out. After the Classic World rewrite bumped 1H Axe/Blunt to 2.4 swing, the per-hit gap vs 2H now comes mostly from base WATK.

1H + shield upsides:
• Lv 30 warrior shield = 109 WDEF + 20 HP + a full scroll slot.
Shield accepts accuracy scrolls. ACC is one of the strongest stackable sources for warriors, and 2H can't match it.
• A miss = 0 damage. Missing 1 in 5 swings is a flat 20% DPS loss, bigger than most multiplier gains from going 2H.

2H upsides:
• Higher per-hit (2.5-3.0 swing on 2H sword/axe/BW, 3.5 on spear/polearm) and higher base WATK.
• Simpler gearing (no shield to chase).
• Wins outright once your ACC clears the target mob's avoid floor.
Physical ACC formula: `floor(DEX / 3) + floor(LUK / 6) + 5 + gear ACC + skill/buff ACC`, universal across every class and weapon. A lv 30 warrior with 24 DEX has 13 ACC from stats alone (8 from DEX plus the +5 base). Shield accuracy scrolls stack on top with no DEX trade-off. Hit chance also scales with level gap: ACC is effectively divided by `((monLv − charLv) + 51) / 51` when the mob is higher level, so fighting above your level punishes ACC hard. See the Accuracy Simulator for exact per-mob numbers.

Armor: meet the requirements, scroll the rest

Warrior armor rules:
• Most tiers ship in STR and DEX colour variants; a few have HP variants.
• WDEF is identical across colour variants of the same tier.
Overalls unlock at lv 15 (Steel Fitted Mail) and replace top+bottom. Only Overall slots can scroll +STR/+DEX; tops and bottoms can only scroll WDEF.

Hats

Most warrior hats only have DEX-bonus colour variants. The lv 20 split is the only point with a STR option (Football Helmet, +2 STR) vs DEX (Viking Helm, +2 DEX). Common-class hats (Bandana, Metal Gear, Starry Bandana, Bamboo Hat) fill gaps when the tier demands DEX you don't have.

Overalls (warrior gets these early)

Warriors get overalls at lv 15 (Steel Fitted Mail) and upgrade through lv 20 (Kendo Robe) and lv 30 (Engrit / Black Dragon / Sauna Robe). Overall is the only chest slot you can scroll for +STR or +DEX; tops and bottoms only scroll for WDEF.

Shoes

Warrior shoes don't follow a clean STR/DEX pattern: most tiers have multiple DEX variants and one or zero STR variant. Two no-req gems fill the gap: Squishy Shoes (any, lv 28, +1 all stats) and Red Snowshoes (Warrior, lv 30, +1 STR). Both are the pick for STR-stacked builds gear-locked on DEX.

Scrolling: cheap and safe until level 50

Scroll rules:
• Most warrior armor has 7 slots; overalls have 10.
• Only Chaos scrolls destroy on fail. Lesser, Intermediate, Greater are all safe.
• Don't perfect-scroll lv 10-30 gear; you'll want to replace most things by lv 35.

Lesser100%+1 statNo
Intermediate60%+2 statNo
Greater10%+3 statNo
Chaos10%+5 statYes (on fail)

Hammer Lesser (100%) Overall STR into your overall once you can afford to, most likely on your lv 30 overall (Red Engrit). Try Intermediate (60%) Attack on weapon slots 1-2.

Where to buy them. Two Classic-only vendors stock the key Lesser scrolls for warriors:
Tulcus (Warning Street: The Swamp of Despair II) sells Overall Armor STR Scroll: Lesser at 15,000 mesos (for Steel Fitted Mail / Kendo / Engrit). Also stocks Hat Accuracy, Shoes Avoidability, Cape WDEF/MDEF/Accuracy, and Shield DEF scrolls.
El Moth (Victoria Road: The Tree That Grew III) sells every weapon Attack Scroll: Lesser (1H/2H Sword, 1H/2H Axe, 1H/2H BW, Spear, Polearm) at 20,000 mesos each.

Where to grind from 10 to 30

For per-bracket map picks (Lv 10-15 through Lv 25-30), open the Best Grind Maps guide and filter to the lv 10-30 brackets. Warriors can tank mobs that would one-shot a thief, so push a level or two ahead of the listed ranges. Well-scrolled Steel Fitted Mail plus maxed Slash Blast makes lv 18-22 Ant Tunnel comfortable even on limited potions.

Want picks tailored to your exact build? Open the Character Builder, enter your level, stats, and gear, and the Training Advisor panel ranks every map by EXP efficiency specifically for you instead of the generic bands above.

Level 30: pick your second job

Return to Dances with Balrog in Perion for a short quest, then choose:

  • Fighter → sword + axe. Axe Mastery adds a 25% bleed proc (100% dmg over 3s, huge for grinding); Sword/Axe Mastery only apply with matching weapon. Rage = +35 AP (and -35 WDEF) party buff, 300s. Well-rounded melee.
  • Page → sword + BW. BW Mastery adds +20 AP and a 25% stun proc (BW only, big reason to main blunt on Page). Threaten debuffs enemy speed/ATK/WDEF; Power Guard reflects 40% of physical damage. Safest 1H/shield pick, strongest CC at 2nd job.
  • Spearman → spear + polearm. Spear Mastery = +60 avoid (spear only), Polearm Mastery = +20 speed (polearm only). Iron Will = +50 WDEF + 35% KB resist. Hyper Body is the legendary +30% MaxHP party buff. Pick this to be indispensable party utility.
